A More Beautiful Church is Possible

By Cathie Ostapchuk

This spring, through our partnership in the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada's national research on women in Canadian evangelical churches, Gather Women had the privilege of listening alongside researcher Lindsay Callaway and an exceptional team to the voices of more than 2,000 women from every corner of our country. Their stories confirmed much of what we have experienced over the past decade: Canadian Christian women love Jesus, they love Scripture, they remain deeply committed to the local church, and they long to see Christ's Church flourish for generations to come.

That is where we choose to begin.

Not with what divides us, but with what calls us forward

We believe God is inviting His Church into something richer than suspicion, stronger than polarization, more compelling than simply preserving the way things have always been.

We believe He is inviting us to become women and men who are so deeply formed by Christ that our churches become places where people flourish, where gifts are stewarded with humility, where differences are held with grace, and where love becomes our loudest witness.

At Gather Women, we speak on behalf of women who have faithfully carried responsibility in their homes, churches, workplaces, schools, ministries, and communities while quietly wondering if there is still room for their own becoming.

We speak on behalf of women who have spent years investing in others and are discovering that their own souls also need tending.

We speak on behalf of young women stepping into leadership who need trusted voices to remind them that they do not have to become someone else to lead well, and seasoned women whose wisdom is too valuable to be lost because they believe their best years are behind them.

We also speak to our pastors, denominational leaders, husbands, fathers, brothers, colleagues, and friends. Thank you for walking with us, believing in us, opening doors, asking hard questions, and labouring alongside us for the sake of the gospel. The flourishing of women has never been a women's issue. It is a Kingdom issue. It is a discipleship issue. It is a Church issue. And it is work we are called to do together.

We believe the future of the Canadian Church will not be secured by better strategies alone. It will be shaped by women and men who know who they are in Christ, who are rooted in Scripture, generous toward one another, courageous in conviction, humble enough to keep learning, and committed to helping one another flourish.

We believe women are not asking to stand at the centre of the story. They are asking to be invited more deeply into it—to grow as disciples, to steward the gifts God has entrusted to them, and to participate fully in God's mission with humility, wisdom, and joy.

We believe the Church is at her very best when women and men make that possible for one another.

This is why Gather exists.

We are not building programs for women.

We are cultivating places where women are formed—around Scripture, around tables, in honest conversation, and in authentic community—so that they can return to their homes, churches, workplaces, and neighbourhoods more deeply rooted in Christ than when they arrived.

That is the vision behind Gather Circles.

That is why The Studio exists.

Not because women need one more thing to do, but because the Church needs women who are deeply formed, deeply grounded, and deeply encouraged to become all God created them to be.

This fall, Gather Women will celebrate ten years of God's faithfulness. We will spend time giving thanks for what He has done, but even more time imagining what He might yet do if women across Canada were invested in, encouraged, and formed for the sake of the Church and the world.

We hope you'll celebrate with us.

If you are longing to invest in your own formation, applications for The Studio are now open.

If you're curious about building meaningful community, join us for Gather Circles.

And if you believe in this vision, we invite you to invest in Gather Women. Every investment helps us invest in women. And every woman who is formed, encouraged, and equipped strengthens a family, blesses a church, serves a community, and leaves a legacy that reaches far beyond herself.

We believe the Church can be more beautiful than this.

By God's grace, we believe she will be.
